embellish chicago is your Northcenter neighborhood boutique, full of unique gifts that are sure to please everyone in your life. Opened 13 years ago, embellish’s selection is curated by owner Carrie, who talked us through her favorite products and makers this season.
1. What makes embellish special?
embellish is a neighborhood boutique with a laid back vibe. The gifts, accessories and apothecary items that we source are from smaller, like-minded designers, makers and brands. We’re into telling their stories, promoting their passions and connecting them with our customers who are looking for a little something different. Our mission is to help our customers feel good about what they buy, wear and give.
2. When you say you have sustainable practices, what do you mean?
We’ve always tried to use packaging that is made of recycled materials. And by the end of 2022, our goal is for all of our packaging to be 100% sustainable and made in the US. We also reuse and up-cycle as much packaging as possible from the shipments that we receive, use a compost bin and plan on adding a “plant a tree” program to help offset our carbon footprint
3. Favorite item today?
That's tough! I’m going to have to pick three. 1) Ink+Alloy beaded earrings which have been a crowd favorite! 2) Rach B’s timeless green chrysoprase necklace. 3) Taylor Street Tangerine Tango lip balm is always in my bag.
4. Do you also make jewelry in-house?
Yes! We have made our own jewelry in-house for years but never really promoted it. We recently have taken it to the next level and did our first collaboration with local designer Abby Alley, and have created a very exciting and meaningful gold-filled and brass beach bird necklace that is set to launch right after Valentine's Day. Additionally we will be donating a portion from the sale of each necklace to Child Mind Institute.
5. How do your fundraisers work, and who is eligible?
We partner with great organizations, schools and charities to set up week-long fundraisers and donate 20% back for in-store and online sales within the designated week. We have done this for years and our goal for 2022 is to increase the impact of this program. Reach out to carrie@embellishchicago.com for more information!
