L&M Fine Foods
Have you shopped in L&M Fine Foods yet? This consciously-curated grocer is on a mission to help you remember to buy the good stuff, because when you buy a well made small batch product you taste what it’s supposed to be like and remember exactly why you love it. We stopped by to grab lunch with L&M owner Rebecca to chat about the shop and the state of retail in 2022.
How long have you been in the neighborhood?
We opened in November of 2019. In July of 2021 we expanded across the street with the opening of Parkside, a restaurant bringing you a playful take on American fare.
What does L&M stand for?
Lincoln and Montrose Avenue! This shop is my love letter to the NYC corner grocery stores that carry a little bit of everything you need, and my goal was for L&M to have that old school corner deli feel.
Speaking of deli’s, what’s your favorite sandwich?
The Rebecca - cold roast beef on toasted bread with some mild giardiniera.
Do you work with local suppliers?
Local suppliers define us. We work with so many local food producers, and want to be the go-to retail location for them to get in front of customers as they begin to grow their brands. Two women-owned businesses that come to mind right away are Katherine Anne Confections, who makes amazing chocolates, and Milky Milky Ice Cream, located right in Ravenswood. Our goal is to help our neighbors connect to their food, and our staff knows our brands and how to help you find exactly what you need.
Give us some real talk on the state of retail these days.
Remember that shopping locally happens 365 days a year. January and February are the slowest time of the year for small businesses, and most have to make a significant amount of money during the holiday season in order to carry through the winter months. But… Omicron crushed those most profitable two weeks for many businesses. Just remember what you love in your neighborhood, and support it now before it goes away!
Stop by @lmfinefoods everyday from 8AM-8PM Monday to Saturday, and 8AM-7PM on Sundays. We recommend you try the porchetta sandwich!
